Mom And Dad's 60th!

Featured Replies

HELP!! I have both my mom and dad's 60Th b-days coming up within the next two months. I can't be there so I want to give them something great! Any ideas?? My mom is the kind of woman who has everything and feels she has too much stuff as it is. I was thinking a humanitarian gift of some kind if that makes any sence?? Any ideas?

I gave mine a framed portrait of themselves -they loved it. Also gave my mum a new grandaughter, she loved that more.

framed portrait of themselves

Good Idea

or Maybe buy a package tour for them

Well I can say for sure that my Thai 'soon to be mom in law' would definetly loveeeeeee a grandbaby but I think my parents would like the wedding to come first. But yes that will be the ultimate present one day!

Yes package tour or small trip is a good idea bambina.

I've been considering getting a portrait done of myself and my husband for my parent's 40th anniversary. I can't decide on a photograph or painting tho. My parents love having photos of their kids around them, they just don't have many of us (yeah right, here I am in my clean t-shirt and shorts :o ).

Also a good idea Sbk, I gave her that (well only a framed pic) this Christmas though. A potrait is a great idea. perhaps I will save that idea for her 70th.

keep em comin!

This would take a lot of organisation & co-operation, but how about presenting each of them with their life story? A photo album or nice book filled with photos, mementoes, souvenirs, newspaper clippings, family history, wishes from friends and family for each of them from birth till now?

That would be sooooooooooo perfect for my mom, I love that idea, but I'm in Korea right now so it won't be possible but another excellent idea thanks!

If you're thinking of a humanitarian gift, I saw yesterday on TV (that's the tv I watch, not this forum... :o ) that for 20-30 dollars you can donate a fishing boat and nets to a village in Sri Lanka, or a buy a goat for a family in Rwanda, or have a toilet installed in Angola, and it's being promoted as a good way to buy someone in your family a present. You buy it and dedicate it to the village or family in their name.

Or, why don't you have a star named for them? Or adopt them a whale? Or buy/adopt them a piece of the transCanada highway? (you're canadian if i remember correctly)

There's loads of fun to be had with presents that aren't "things".

Good luck!

my sister gave us some trees planted in our names in israel / a nice certificate, a good thing, just annoyed anon as he wanted to actually see OUR trees (they are never marked anymore)....

my kids have trees i have trees.... adding to the environment in a good way....

u could do a sort of family tree using photos (internet and photo shop are great) as a picture, get a hold of their parents' fotos if there are any... if u can get a sibling or other relative to get some pics and scan them etc.... then hand do the tree, plug in the scanned photos etc...

Hope you don't mind a blokes advice - but my Mum and Dad love Benjarong porcelain - this has made birthdays and christmases a lot easier.

For fear of incurring the wrath of some posters..

I'm over 60, and there's nothing I want for..

I have a Daughter and she says she loves me all the time..

I guess that's the only present I need..

How about something really different like getting a star named for her? I did that for my father one year. You can do it through the International Star Registery. They give you a certificate & a map of where in the solar system your star is & it's really registered under that name (I think in Geneva). Just a thought! :o

This is the superb Idea ever for a gift (I qoute from General forum to here ,maybe the OP will have the other choice of the gift )
