NHSO denies trying to cut public health spending

BANGKOK, 13 April 2017 (NNT) - The National Health Security Office (NHSO) asserted that its fund requests have always been in line with real expenditures.

According to NHSO Spokesperson Dr. Attaporn Limpanyalert, the NHSO dictates how much it needs to run public health services each year based on the amount of money it spent a year before.

Dr. Attaporn also repudiated media reports that the NHSO attempts to cut its public health spending. On the contrary, the NHSO is seeking to increase its national health security fund for 2017 by 4% and 2018 by 8.5% rather than 2% as claimed by local media.

Under the National Health Security Act 2002, the NHSO’s budget request can include salaries of its employees as they are the ones providing health-related services.
