Security tight for Krue Se Mosque raid anniversary
By The Nation

PATTANI: -- Internal Security Operations Command has alerted police, troops and the Interior Ministry to step up security ahead of next week’s anniversary of the bloody 2004 raid on the Krue Se Mosque in Pattani.

Col Pramote Promin, spokesman for ISOC Region 4, cited concern that ethnic Malay insurgents might conduct attacks to commemorate the historic event.

The military on April 28, 2004, laid siege to the mosque where pursued insurgents had taken shelter. The raid left 32 militants and three government security officers dead.

Pramote said authorities, led by the southern Army command, would step up protection of people, communities and places considered at particular risk.
