PARIS/PAPEETE, French Polynesia (Reuters) - French overseas territories and French residents in the United States and Canada began voting on Saturday in France's presidential election, a day before the main first-round of a poll that could change the global political landscape.

MAZAR-I-SHARIF/KABUL, Afghanistan (Reuters) - President Ashraf Ghani declared a national day of mourning after scores of soldiers were killed by Taliban fighters disguised as fellow soldiers, in the deadliest attack of its kind on an Afghan military base.

CONSTANTA, Romania (Reuters) - Former tennis bad boy Ilie Nastase found himself in deep water on Saturday after being booted out of Romania's Fed Cup tie against Britain, a day after allegations that he made a derogatory comment about Serena Williams' unborn child.

After more than a decade in planning and construction, the long-awaited Khlong Katha Reservoir in Chalong is expected to be complete in July, and to start collecting heaven-sent rainwater when the rainy season begins drenching Phuket in the coming weeks.

The Provincial Waterworks Authority's Nakhon Ratchasima branch office on Saturday clarified that its three reservoirs were full of raw water for tap-water supplies to local residents, enough to last beyond the dry season into the rainy season.
