Video: Taxi driver playing with his phone spooks passengers

BANGKOK: -- A video doing the rounds of Thai social media shows a Bangkok taxi driver continually playing with his phone while driving his cab.

The driver is messing about texting using the Line application in his left hand. Sometimes he even takes his right hand off the steering wheel to send a message, reported Daily News.

The female passenger in the back videos the ride and explained to Daily News Online later that they nearly had an accident as the driver was more interested in his phone than their safety.

Amporn Kapthong, 21, posted the clip on Facebook with the ironic comment: "I didn't know the law permits a taxi driver to play with

their phone during a journey. And they also seem to be allowed to have a go at passengers who are not in the wrong".

The grumpy driver in the clip is mad because the passengers are not completely sure of the way. Amporn and her elder sister were

travelling from Victory Monument to Sam Sen railway station on Sunday afternoon.

I have a feeling the entire country is becoming quite spooky!

1,000 baht fine and we move to the next case, why would they NOT

do all those things if the deterrents are a joke to be scoffed at?.....

Well at least he was only playing with his phone, and not himself.:cheesy::cheesy:

Obviously he was doing the customers a favor

since they didn't know the way..........

Pffff

:coffee1:

Why was the ID plate on the back door blanked out?

He was asking his friend how to become a Grab driver

Probably asking someone how to get to destination... though he would have been better to have downloaded Google Maps.....

had it it like that once, when driver admitted he did not know how to get from Phitsanuloke Road to Pracha Songkran... but if he had told me that first I could have given accurate directions!!!

I understand how you feel TIT

Just to say ...yesterday I had a perfect taxi ride in BKK!

The car was spotless.  When I told the driver my destination, he asked if I wanted to go any particular route.  I told him I was in his hands.  He proposed one route, but then went to his Google map, mounted on the dash, and noticed that an alternative route showed light traffic, so that's the way we went.

He used his mirrors frequently and also had add-ons to the mirrors showing wider-angle views.  He turned on some light music at a reasonable volume.  He was calm and polite throughout.

He earned a 30% tip.

This is Thailand he was showing Thainess as instructed by the PM, selfish, attitude . passengers are the problem.

He was following the GPS direction to hell. It's legal!

Take his licence away and prosecute him for dangerous driving with a fine of 100,000 Baht

These people are a menace to society

Nah wont happen  that is just normal cab driving  he will get a brand new cab out of all this

How "spooked" will the unwitting passengers be when they realize this moron's driving habits are more the rule than the exception here in the LOS?

If you like reading old out of print history books like me you will find out that Thailand was already spooky in the 14th century. Chinese travellers who wrote about their travels in Thailand and Cambodia during the early century said Thailand was spooky. Black magic and things like that. Women who like you would do things to keep you from going back home. How about that? It has always been a Spooky country. Come to think of it, I should call my newly adopted cat "Spooky". Sounds nice.

When things like this happens, just get out of the taxi and hail another one. If the driver won't stop, open the door -works 100% of the time.

Half (or more) the drivers out there are doing this.

Whenever you pass someone dawdling in any lane, likely they are using their phone.
