webfact
Future uncertain for closed James Bond tourist attraction in south Picture: Sanook PHANG NGA: -- The future remains uncertain for the James Bond tourist attraction opened at the Surakun port in Phang Nga in 2014. Heralded as a boon for local tourism when it was completed it has now been empty for three years as contractual problems plague its operation. The facility was designed to showcase the famous film series one edition of which, The Man with the Golden Gun, was filmed in Thailand. The building is now going to ruin with the air conditioning all broken and trees and grass growing where once were a mini theater, sound and light shows and a gift shop. Sanook spoke to a local administration chief who said that various disputes means the facility remains closed to tourists. There are still plans for the local authority to run the facility on a rental basis but this has yet to be agreed upon with the tourism authorities . NCC1701A
gee, maybe United Artists and the Broccoli family who owns the rights to JB had something to do with this being shut down. and there is NO WAY a Thai bartender could make a Martini properly. :)

Perhaps they should change tack and make it a Britt Ekland theme park.

impulse
Every time I see something like this, I'm more convinced that the Thai government is just being humane when they set so many hurdles in front of foreigners who want to invest in land and businesses here in Thailand. If locals with the dosh to build something like this can't figure out who owns it, who's going to operate it and who's going to keep any proceeds, an outsider hasn't got a prayer. It's more humane to have 100 foreigners griping about not being able to open a business for all the red tape than to have 98 of them griping about getting their clock cleaned after they've lost their life savings.
