BMA begins work on Pom Mahakan park

BANGKOK, 26 April 2017 (NNT) - The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is conducting a facelift of Pom Mahakan, which will reopen to the public by the end of May.

The facelift follows the demolition of homes encroaching on a nearby canal that runs through the area of Pom Mahakan on March 20th.

The BMA’s Department of Public Works and the Environment Department have begun work on the area, employing a backhoe and an excavator. The area will become a park spanning 300 square wa or 1,200 square meters. The BMA expects to finish the construction by the end of May.

Regarding the preservation of historical houses at Pom Mahakan, a tripartite committee has been established, consisting of BMA officials, local community representatives, and law enforcement. The committee has drafted criteria to evaluate each house for its historical value. If the structure does not meet the criteria, then it will be demolished accordingly.
