I am a UK male, married to Thai lady. I'm entering Thailand via BKK on 2 May, and its very possible I will need to stay, longer than my permitted stay till the 31 May. I will be staying in Loeng Nok Tha, and my appropriate Immigration office is at Amanat Charoen.  How long can  I extend my stay???  My return flight ticket is valid till the 29 June, so if required, can I extend my stay by approx 30 days???? at this office ?? or does it have to be done in BKK????

I take it the form to use will be a TM7 required passport photo, and fee THB1900.

Thanks

You can certainly get a 30 day (not approx, exactly) extension on your visa exempt entry and it can be done at your local immigration office.

The one issue you may face is at the airport in the UK as they will(may) be looking for a flight out of Thailand within 30 days.  You may need to buy a throwaway ticket for this purpose.

Thanks for that, just one question , why would I have a problem at a UK Airport???

Because the airlines understand that if you enter without a visa you get a 30 day entry.  They don't know or care about the possibility to extend in-country.  Strictly speaking you can be denied entry to Thailand without the 30 day outbound ticket and the airline is afraid they will be liable to bring you back to the UK.  There have been numerous reports of people denied boarding from the UK but at the same time plenty of opposite reports with no problems at all.

You could always nip up to Hull for a tourist visa and the potential problem is gone, and then also no need for the extension in Thailand.

30 days for tourism or 60 days to visit your wife. Either extension costs 1,900 baht and you apply using form TM.7.

You'll also need copies of your passport ID page, visa, entry stamp and departure card. Maybe proof of where you stay.

If apply for 60 days your wife will have to be with you and give copies of her ID and house book (Tabien Baan).

It's probably a good idea to get your wife to submit a TM.30 when you arrive. Otherwise you/she might get fined when you apply for the extension.

If you are denied entry the airline are liable to fly you back out so some airlines want to see an return ticket that could be used to offset their costs, or a ticket for another airline that they might be able to pass on the passenger to.

All tourists are supposed to have booked onward flights (transportation) out if the country.

With regards to my ticket it is a return LHR to BKK ticket, and I have a pre booked return flight, with in 30 days 1 06 17,  which i can change the return date, so long as it is with in 2 months of departure. I have had this confirmed by Thai Airways office in London  with regards to the terms and conditions of my ticket class .

Thanks for the advice

Your best option for future visits would be a single or multiple entry non-immigrant 'O' visa. You get 90 days per entry, extendable by 60 days, and easily obtained with a copy of your marriage certificate and wife's ID.

Tourist and non-immigrant visas can be applied for by post to the London Embassy and are usually back within a week.
