Online live streaming is to be placed under NBTC’s control

The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission has decided to place online live streaming under control following complaints of unfair competition from several digital TV operators.

The commission met on Monday to discuss the complaints filed by several digital TV operators against competition from online live streaming through Facebook, YouTube or other service providers or OTT (over-the-top) business, said Colonel Nathee Sakulrat, vice chairman of the NBTC, on Tuesday.

The commission agreed that the OTT business or online live streaming should come under the jurisdiction of the broadcasting regulator, he said, adding that the committee decided to form a panel to work out ways and means to regulate image and audio broadcasts through other channels.
