BANGKOK: -- A promotional video for an upcoming historical Thai soap pokes fun at Bangkok taxi drivers for all their perceived excuses for refusing fares.

The video comes after a case of a well known TV executive who became embroiled in an argument in Sukhumvit road with a taxi driver in April hit the news, reported Manager.

The video - entitled "Rangsithorn and Mankaew taking a taxi to Siam" - features two soap heartthrobs Son or Yuk Songphaisan and View or Wannarot Sonthichai.

Dressed in period clothing they arrange to meet at "Siam" but encounter nothing but problems on their respective journeys.

The taxi excuses are plastered across the screen:

"Can't take you, I'm out of gas"

"I have to take my car back to the garage"

"I don't know the way"

Finally an actor playing a driver gives more grief to the lead actor!

The video comes in the wake of a well publicized incident in which executive Tanonkiat Wirawan lashed out at a taxi that refused a fare.

He paid 1,000 baht to the driver for damage to the vehicle but the driver, Rungnakhorn Donkun 40, was subsequently fined 2,000 baht for refusing a fare and impoliteness as well as ordered to undergo three days of training. He also had his license suspended for a month.

Manager reported that the video met with the approval of people online and by yesterday it had been viewed nearly 300,000 times.

I hope they had appropriate 'boings'  and other  comedy sound effects, so I will know when to laugh - without them, it can get so confusing

They did. I got into a masochistic streak and checked.

An irony that will probably be lost on both the drivers and the DoLT.

"...and the DoLT."
