urgent- flying out of thailand to get a new tourist visa?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have already done one land-crossing border run to Cambodia, extension valid until May 10. Didn't realize getting a marriage visa would take so much time, and now I have to leave the country again within 2 days. I have been reading that if I fly out for a few days and go to a Thai embassy there I can apply for a new 60 day tourist visa w/ another 30 day extension. I just want to double check with all you experts on the forum that this is what I have to do... example: get a cheap flight to Hanoi for a few days (as well as another flight out of Thailand w/in 60 days) go to the embassy, submit a new visa application, pick up my new visa the next day...?

Any tips appreciated!

Yes you can get a tourist visa from embassies/consulates in neighbouring countries.

However, if you are married you can get a 60 day extension of stay from your local immigration office for 1,900 baht. Or, if you leave the country for a visa you could get a non-immigrant visa, rather than a tourist visa, which would give you 90 days.

Yes, as soon as you're married and have a marriage certificate, which should be issued as part of the process tomorrow, you can apply for an extension of stay.

OK we will try this tomorrow! If it doesn't work for some reason I will try to go for my second landcrossing border run on Wed...

I didn't know about this - I'm assuming it's fine to get the 60 day extension first and then go to Savanakhet at a later time to apply for that visa, since I'm tight on time?

Yes get your 60 day extension to visit wife. You will need to take your wife along to immigration with you as well as all relevent documents then make plans to go to Savanakhet for a non o based on marriage near the end of the 60 days.

Congratulations BTW
