PM: State budgeting to comply with national strategy

BANGKOK, 9 May 2017 (NNT) – The Prime Minister has insisted that the government’s budgeting will be in accord with the national development plan and strategy.

After a meeting of the committee for budgeting and promoting sustainable economy, Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha made known that the panel agreed in principle to execute budgeting in line with the strategic integration method. An additional budget of about 19 billion baht has been set for the 2018 fiscal year but will need to be reviewed by the committee again to ensure that its spending will serve the purpose of the 12th National Economic and Social Development Plan and the 20-year national strategy.

The Prime Minister noted that public members are currently allowed to voice their suggestions on state spending for the first time. With the planning of the extra budget, he said it does not mean corruption will take place as various bodies have been assigned to monitor disbursement.

The premier also affirmed that any unused or leftover funds will be returned to the state coffers in order to be spent on other projects intended to alleviate people’s hardships.

Drawing down the government deficit would be a better approach.
