webfact
Germany says will tell U.S. at G7 that the world needs its leadership REUTERS FILE PHOTO: German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble attends a lower house of parliament Bundestag session in Berlin, Germany, April 27, 2017. REUTERS/Hannibal Hanschke/File Photo BARI, Italy (Reuters) - German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble said on Friday he would tell the U.S. Treasury Secretary that the world needs the United States' leadership. The new administration of President Donald Trump was the focus of comments by finance ministers entering a two-day meeting of the group of seven rich countries in Bari, Italy. Schaeuble said his message to U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin would be that "we need a strong United States to lead the global economy and global politics on a sustainable way." Italian Economy Minister Pier Carlo Padoan said Trump's plan to slash taxes on businesses was "ambitions" and he would be watching to see how it affected U.S. growth. He added that he was "not worried" about its broader affects on the economy. I think it's fair to say after this week that Mr Schaeuble's plan needs to go on hold for a while.

dunroaming
Can't see the point of trying to appeal to Trump over anything. USA will return to being a world power and contributor after they get rid of the moron in the oval office. Until then America is just an embarrassment and is best ignored. IAMHERE
"Leadership" ? That must be 'code word' for money. The USA is the G7 nation most likely to tax it's citizens to benefit the rest of the world. Stay home America, take care of your self first.

I think that is the way that many Americans see it's countries role. You need to decide if you want to be an also ran or a country that leads the world. America has been a world leader and had the respect which goes with that but that is fast disappearing with Trump and his followers. So by all means be isolationist if that is where you want to be. Hereinthailand
Yes for too long now the world has wanted the usa to lead and we try, not always doing a good job usually making things worse, but I think most Americans have had enough of the backstabbing by other countries when things go wrong and then shit on us and run for cover. Europe needs to learn a lesson they didnt after two world wars, learn to take care of your own interests in the world and solve your own problems. And I salute the UK for always being there through thick and thin. This discussion has nothing to do with who is our president. Obama learned the hard way how reliable most of his so called friends were.

Bear in mind that Herr Schaeuble said, just before Brexit referendum, that "elections can't be allowed to change things"! That was in the context of the EU "vision"; or to be more precise his and his boss's vision. He probably thinks the same is true of the US! Given the seemingly endless Trump U-turns on election rhetoric he may have a point!!
