North Korea fires missile - South Korea military

SEOUL (Reuters) - North Korea fired on Sunday a ballistic missile from a region near its west coast that flew 700 kilometres (430 miles), South Korea's military said, days after a new leader took office in the South pledging to engage in dialogue with Pyongyang.

 

The missile was fired early on Sunday from a region named Kusong located northwest of Pyongyang, where the North previously test-launched an intermediate-range missile it is believed to be developing, the last time in February.

 

Japan said the missile flew for 30 minutes and dropped in the sea between the North's east coast and Japan.

 

Sunday's launch is the first in two weeks since the last attempt to fire a missile ended in a failure just minutes into flight.

 

Japan swiftly issued a protest. Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said North Korea's firing of a ballistic missile was a violation of U.N.

resolutions and that Japan strongly protested the action. Prime Minister Shinzo Abe repeated the protest in comments to reporters.

 

"North Korea's repeated missile launches are a grave threat to our country and a clear violation of UN resolutions," Abe told reporters, adding Japan will stay in close touch with the United States and South Korea.

 

The launch is the first since a new liberal president took office in South Korea on Wednesday saying dialogue as well as pressure must be used to ease tensions on the Korean peninsula and stop the North's weapons pursuit.

 

President Moon Jae-in has called an emergency National Security Council meeting in response to the launch, the presidential Blue House said.

 

The North attempted but failed to test-launch ballistic missiles four consecutive times in the past two months but has conducted a variety of missile testing since the beginning of last year at an unprecedented pace.

 

Weapons experts and government officials believe the North has accomplished some technical progress with those tests.

 

U.S. President Donald Trump warned in an interview with Reuters in late April that a "major, major conflict" with the North was possible, but he would prefer a diplomatic outcome to the dispute over its nuclear and missile programmes.

Tensions flare as North Korea test-fires ballistic missile into Sea of Japan

I received this some two hours ago.  US Carlson en route to North Korea.

US Carlson headed toward North Korea in provoked attack.

The missile was launched from a site near the north-western city of Kusong about 5.30am local time (7am AEST) and flew about 700km, according to the South's Joint Chiefs of Staff.

"The South and US are analysing more details about the missile," the Joint Chiefs of Staff said in a statement. Emergency meeting called.

I rather doubt Kim Jong-Un has seen his balls, or his shoe laces, in a long time.  He is a text book case of over-compensation for a severe case of short-man with small pee pee complex.

 

The US has virtually ignored NK militarily for 8 years, so this smarmy line about provocation from "the west", is nonsense, and you know it.  The US (and others) are responding because of NK's conscious, intentional, attention seeking provocations.  Failing to take responsibility for them is childish and intentionally obtuse. 

 

The Korean people are caught in the middle but are too cowed by generations of cult programming and communist propaganda bullshit.  Perhaps if we just leave them alone, they will quit blaming everyone else for what THEY have allowed to happen to their country.  Then grow a set of balls, string this fat kid up by his scrotum, and take their country back.   Ya' think?

North Korea starves it's population by strictly rationing their food, if any family refuses to release their children for military service they are either denied rations, imprisoned, 're-educated' or executed, feeding the ego of the dear leader is more important than feeding the people, and North Korea sees the need to be a nuclear threat as more important than the safety of the population. The little maniac in charge of North Korea couldn't give a rat's ass about the people, it's all about him.

Whatever its many and vicious faults, starvation in North Korea is mostly a thing of the past.  There is a growing number of capitalisitic markets allowed to flourish there.  The North Korean leadership finally understands that you can't compete without a strong economy and juche just doesn't cut it.

What a complete and utter load of bo.llox. The NK people suffer because they are downtrodden by their rulers (their OWN people) and virtually all GDP spent on the military. Your everything-is-awesome view is extremely naive and omits the hundreds of thousands forced into gulags/executions. We've been waiting 60 odd years and they haven't come around yet. Another reason possibly because they don't have oil.

 

And, no, the yanks aren't scared of China, but they are worried that if they do go in Seoul and Tokyo will get some serious flack. The Chinese are more concerned about the US ending up on their border, which is why it will probably be them that will put fat boy down.

Kim is becoming increasingly nutty and unstable. As others have said he was last weeks news story. He seems for whatever reason to want to stay in the spot light. He knows he can't control the country any more and capitalism is moving in despite his families efforts to quash it.

 

Information is becoming readily available about what kind of a monster he really is and he can not control the flow anymore. China looks increasingly ready to sell him out for a deal of some kind. We can only hope that somebody inside the country gets to him before something worse happens.

 

Our little pariah of a buddy is running out of options and now living on borrowed time. He doesn't live to see the year 2020.
