PATTANI: -- Deputy Defence Minister Udomdej Seetabutr will make a field trip to Pattani on Monday to inspect the scene of last week’s car bomb at Big C superstore which left more than 60 shoppers injured.

He said that the cabinet, at a special meeting on Wednesday, would discuss the bombing incident with a view to review the programme to encourage southern militants and their sympathizers to turn a new leaf, officially known as the “Bring People Home” programme.

General Udomdej said he would like the screening process of the programme to be tightened up to make sure that those who entered the programme would return to engage in illegal activity.

Regarding the car bombing incident, the deputy defence minister maintained that security officials concerned were not ignorant. However, he said that they would need to beef up security measures.

Meanwhile, Colonel Peerawat Saengthong, spokesman of the Internal Security Operations Command, assured that all the perpetrators involved in the incident would be arrested soon.

Start meaningful peace talks.
