Having visited Chonburi Immigration, Jomtien for three different reasons over the past couple of months and knowing how much criticism they receive on TV I would like to pass on my experiences. My Thai wife of twenty years and I moved house a few weeks back and as my Extension of Stay based on retirement was coming up I thought it wise for my wife to submit a TM30, never having submitted one in all the fifteen years that I have lived in Thailand. Armed with as may documents as I thought would be necessary and not sure what to expect my wife and I went to Jomtien around 1:00pm on a Friday. We went into the small office on the left of the reception area and advised the young lady that we wished to submit a TM30 to advise a change of address. We handed over the form, my passport, my wife's i.d. card and the blue book for the house; the young lady tore the acknowledgement strip from the bottom of the form, stapled it into my passport, handed it back to me together with my wife's documents and said o.k. finished. We were in the office for no more than five minutes, no hassle, no problems, superb service. My Extension of Stay was due to be renewed on Wednesday of this week and I traveled by car because it was raining heavily. I arrived at Jomtien around 12:30pm to be greeted by a flooded road and people walking around up to their ankles in water. Somehow I managed to get into the Immigration Department car park and went inside the building to find that business was being conducted as usual despite it being lunchtime. I guess a decision not to close for lunch was made because of the weather conditions. A lot of credit deserved in this respect. The young lady in reception took a cursory glance at my documents, handed me a number and by the time I reached the appropriate desk my number was already displayed on the screen. The guy took my documents, marked all the appropriate information with a yellow highlighter, handed me a small card with a number and advised me to come back the following day after 2:00pm to collect the passport. Once again I was in the office for no more than five minutes. The following day, i.e. Thursday I arrived at around 2:10pm, immediately received my passport and as I was applying for a re-entry permit went next door to get a copy of the new Extension of Stay stamp, then back to Immigration to get a queue number and joined a queue of two. After a couple of minutes I submitted my documents and around another twenty minutes later received my passport. Three visits for three different purposes and all three combined occupied no more than thirty to forty minutes of my time. Absolutely brilliant service and afforded the utmost courtesy by the Immigration staff. I have to add that I have been visiting Jomtien Immigration for all the various functions over the past fifteen years and have always dressed properly, i.e. long trousers, shirt with sleeves, socks, shoes. I have and always treated the staff with respect and I believe this is why I never have any problems.

I have also had good experiences at this office.  You can get things done there "by the book" in almost every case.  Bad activities reported there tend to get "cleaned up" and ended fairly quickly.   I suspect they have enough agent-activity going, so don't need to hassle those doing things without agents - sort of a "best of both worlds" office for most services.

Those trying to do a conversion to a Non-Imm from a TR entry, may differ in their opinion - but maybe that's been "fixed" by now; we will know when the next report comes in.

Yes, I forgot to mention that I did everything without an agent. One other thing I did not mention and which has been identified by some as a hiccup in the past, There was no problem whatsoever with the THB800k being in a fixed term deposit account. In fact my money has been in the same account for seven or eight years.

Plus 1.

Received always good Service at Chonburi Immigration (Jomtien Office).

I also tend to Dress "propper" every time I visit.

I do the same if I go to the Bank for anything else then just withdrawing Money.

I consider these activities as doing "Business" ... and dress accordingly.

I just got my one year extension today.

The total in the Chonburi office was one hour.

About 40 minutes yesterday for my Visa app and I had to complete the tm30 phase.

Today, got my Visa then 20 minutes for the multiple entry.

The place was a little bit of a cluster F in and around the front desk and in the copy room but was told it was a lite day.

I bet on busy days, it could be a nightmare.

Total:

1900 Visa

3800 multiple entry

300 I paid for assistance and copies at the office just outside

1600 for the TM30 penalty
