10 injured at Yasothon rocket festival

By Asaree Thaitrakulpanich, Staff Reporter

YASOTHON — A rocket exploded Sunday at the annual Rocket Festival in the northeastern province of Yasothon, injuring 10.

A homemade rocket exploded just after ignition as it left the tower at about 2pm, burning 10 onlookers. The three-meter rocket exploded about 10 meters from the ground, raining down plastic shrapnel and burning gunpowder. The injured, including three members of the team which set up the rocket, were taken for treatment at Sai Mun Hospital for minor burns.

I never go closer to the launch pad than 50 m.

(and still a slight chance that the pipe goes berserk)

Bloody dangerous stuff.

Wow. How did that ever happen? :saai:

To be honest, I expect that to happen when they're changing the oil or inflating the tyres on a car nowadays.

Once i saw people in Khon Kaen filling 3 meters bamboe rockets with gun powder while smoking. So i went the hell out of that spot.

3 members of the team were injured. Just desserts.
Sad for the 7 bystanders.

A town/province in eastern Isan (northeast Thailand).

One of the poorest provinces of the country.

None of them were rocket scientists!

However, enough meaningful data was gathered, which could be used to advance the Isaan missile program.

Sounds like a North Korean rocket test.

...poor attempt on my part to draw a parallel with the annual Yasothon Festival and the amount of rockets being let off lately in NK.  Sympathies go to the injured of course.
