BANGKOK, 26 May 2017 (NNT) - The Government Savings Bank (GSB) will offer 3 billion baht worth of small loans to street food vendors so that they can make their restaurants more attractive to tourists.

GSB Director Chatchai Payuhanaveechai said the bank will launch a low-interest loan program in June for all types of restaurants including street vendors in Thailand, with an aim to promote the street food culture. Around 10,000 food vendors are expected to participate in the loan scheme.

The program targets owners of food carts, food trucks, and restaurants, who will be granted 300,000 baht, 500,000 baht, and 1 million baht respectively.

In addition, the bank will organize a career training program for food vendors and give out awards to vendors who meet the bank’s business improvement criteria.

Then remove the vendors from the side walks, again to make the side walks more attractive to tourists, and put the vendor in a debt he can't pay back as he lost his business.

Bright idea indeed.

3 billion should go a long way for the ones that are left after the General cleanup of street vendors ! If you know what I mean

Another hair-brained scheme.

Close the business down and then offer to lend them money.

Brilliant Thai business strategy.

Why doesn't anyone here use a little thought before coming out with this stuff.

Now GSB is on a par with TAT for ridiculous ideas and pronouncement.

You guys finished wining?

I think it's a great plan, now the serious vendors can start a restaurant or have a stall at the foodcourts. The ones who can't even run a booth in a foodcourt better grows rice or papaya's or so.
