I have now given up on trying to help people who ask about getting a work permit and what they have to do to get a B visa when they are here with a Non O multi or an extension of stay based on being married when they tell me their wife has told them that after speaking to Imm' that a work permit costs 40,000 baht and can only be issued on a B visa.

I have decided that if they want to change their extension based on being married to a B visa from wherever and pay the company 40,000 baht for a WP which they tell me is issued by Imm' then let them go ahead and waste their money.

End of rant, and good night to all.

They whoever they are are only telling you what they have been told by some rouge immigration officer. One can only present the facts they know. Which is why this forum exists isnt it for clarification and help.

Fair enough dont help any more but dont rant at people for asking genuine questions based on information received from immigration.  Not all are experts on WP and whats required or what visa you can or cant get one on. By the way you say immigration then you say pay the company?

His words.

Imm' told him he must have a B.

Company told him WP cost 40,000 as their lawyer 'has' to do it.

Can't remember exactly but my last WP was 1500 or 1800, few years ago so really can't remember and of course was issued by the Labour Dep't not Imm.

Fair enough I can see both sides here. They guy has been given false info from immigration and his work. One can only act on information given. At least he had the sense to question it on here. Wether he listened or not is completley his decision. I would suspect he or she will think about the info given by yourself and at least question his company. Yes those who know understand immigration have nothing to do with WP issue. But as i say if you dont know you can only act on info given. People like yourself hive info on here and the vast majority appreciate your help and guidence. Im sure tou will carry on giving sound advise.

It's always been questionable to me about the arrangements of work permits, rather who's responsibility it is. All the work permits I have had here have all been taken care of by the Company which I believe is correct. After all, the Company is employing you, they know(?) what is required. Why should the employee have to pay for the privilege of services rendered?

It's sometimes surprising how little some companies know about it. I was told by one company 'we would like to employ you, do you have a work permit?'.

They actually had no idea of the system. I told them to contact the labour office ( Rayong ) who helped them through the process explaining the load of paper they had to supply. In the end it all went smoothly and as always on my Non O.

Ref who pays, 99% of companies do but I have heard of some asking employees to pay a fee especially in the teaching world and sometimes even depending on nationality.
