Cambodia has been elected as an executive board member of the United Nations Development Programme. A statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the country would hold the position for a three-year term, beginning in January 2018. 


During that time, Cambodia will also act as board member for the UN Population Fund and the UN Office for Project Services. The statement said the appointment reconfirmed international recognition of the kingdom’s increasingly important role in helping set the agenda for sustainable development.


It said Cambodia was a fast-growing economy with a strong track record on poverty reduction and the Sustainable Development Goals. This experience would help the UN address global development issues.
