I think that it would be hard to find any other  Government which continually finds it necessary to try to reassure the public that it is actually acting in their interests, as opposed to the interests of the officials contained therein.  I wonder why the Thai Government feels it is necessary?  Well, not really!

They find it necessary because it is unusual. Prior governments didn't do it because it would cause a national outbreak of uncontrollable laughter.

Why has the rail project taken so long to gain approval?

 

CHINA DEMANDED RIGHTS TO THAI LAND ALONG THE RAIL LINE 

Key hurdles included China's demand to hold land rights along the route for commercial purposes.

This, of course, was rejected by the Thai government to whom Thai possession of rights over Thai land is a somewhat sacred legal principle.

 

Has the Junta used Section 44 to give the land to China just to curry favour?

 

Who is going to own the land along the railway?

Soon this high speed railway will cause a national outbreak of uncontrollable suffering. I will take laughter over suffering anytime. :smile:

Let's say the cost blows out to B200 billion and it is such a financial disaster that it loses B1 billion per month. Given that, it would take more than 30 years to equal what Yingluk blew on the rice scam in two and a half, not to mention the suffering from 3 more years of depressed rice prices as the stockpile was sold off.

 

And that's not bothering to mention that she was personally advocating a very similar plan, right up to designing the lunchboxes, before the courts stopped her plan because she planned to do it off-budget and without parliamentary scrutiny.

 

Eric, are you criticising Yingluk too?

My favourite is this little gem - 

 

Pridiyathorn instituted capital controls to attempt to reverse a strengthening of the baht, but reversed the measure after the Thai stock market crashed, destroying US$20 billion of market value in one day. Pridiyathorn later noted that "This was not a mistake. Measures always have side effects. Once we knew the side effects, we quickly fixed it.

 

One man, US 20 bill in just one day.

(yeah, Pridiyathorn was first choice for Finance Minister for both the 2006 and 2014 coups)

Let say you right. Yingluck is in her fight of her life in court and asset seizure order. Now will you beloved junta face the same music after blowing B200. Let's not forget that your beloved Prayut also blew a few billions on his populist rice and rubber scheme.

 

Now what's is that about off-budget expenditure not scrutinized by Parliment. That's what paid MPs supposed to raise up in Parliment of all government matters. Can you say the same for the rubber stamping crony appointed club that is called NLA?

Would "protecting the interests" of Thai people, mean protecting the interests the ripoff limo-taxi 's that offer exorbitant transfer rates or the regular bus operators who may see drop in their scam income when people will have access to fixed rates in high speed rail for their transfers? ? ?
