Does anyone know what the rule is regarding getting divorced and then remarried to the same person? Our marriage was performed at the Thai embassy in Laos, and therefor is not accepted by USCIS for immigration purposes. That is why we need to do this! I've heard it may be possible to do both on the same day as this is not such a rare thing to do here. Anyone who has done this, or knows facts, would very much like to hear from you. Thanks in advance. Oh, my wife is Thai, I am American. Also, we looked into getting married again in Hong Kong or Singapore, but this seems the easiest option given why we are doing this.

Always be careful about weddings at embassies.

You can simply divorce by turning up at any amphur in Thailand together, with the wedding papers, passport/ID-card etc.

Next you will have to get an affidavit from your embassy stating that you are single, so that you can get married again. The letter from your embassy must next be translated to Thai and certified by the Thai ministry of foreign affairs. When you have these papers you can get married again, do bring the divorce certificates with you.

Remarrying is no problem, but because you can't get the paperwork till you are divorced it will take a few days. Only if you are lucky you can do it in 1 day. Divorce at the amphur, make it to your appointment at the embassy, get the paperwork at the Thai consular department before noon so you can get express service and have it back in time to get to an amphur/district office to get married again. With Bangkok traffic I would not count on it that you will make it and I am not sure express service is still available.
