Woofer
Hi, I have been to the beach at Sattahip Naval base quite a few times in the past, but the last time I was there was two years ago. Usually when we you go to the naval base my wife leaves her ID card at the guard post and picks it up when we left. We went to the Naval base last Sunday so the daughter could play on the beach, but the guard told us that foreigners were no longer allowed in, only Thais. Has anybody else had a similar experience? Thanks
lou62
Yes, had it a couple of times. No big deal, a beach is a beach and any beach will do.
johng
In my experience its very hit and miss as to whether they will let you in or not...sometimes at another entrance they will let you in,sometimes a Thai ID,sometimes they wont allow cars and you have to use the waiting songteaw.Sometimes a bigwig is coming so no riff raff at all allowed in or they might be practicing shooting the artillery guns etc etc etc and in conjunction with moon and planet alignmentI gave up even trying a few years agoand just dont bother anymore. They absolutely won't allow a foreign (looking) person onboard the aircraft carrier without a written letter of invitation from an admiral.Thai looking Asians can just stroll on and off (as long as they dont give the game away by speaking)

This same ship that can be googled and maps of the interior are readily available. This second hand ship that countless foreigners have been in, before it was off loaded to them. This rust buckets secrets must be kept away from foreigner preying eyes, so they can't see what they have already seen. Basically all show and absolutely, no substance.

I would like to see the Thai Aircraft Carrier! I understand it's been parked there for about 10+ years and never moved. I understand the deck of the carrier will be the Command Post For Submarine Unit One. I'm looking forward to taking a tour of the sub when it arrives. I think it will be good for Tourism, maybe even submarine rides.

sandyf
The base is not closed to foreigners as such, but it is a bit controlled. I have been right on to the base for a burial at sea and it wasn't a problem. I was the only foreigner in our funeral party but when the boat came back from the one previous I saw several foreigners disembark. Many years ago we went to the beach down the road on the right just before the road goes into Sattahip and within minutes of parking a navy guy turned up on a motorbike and told us to leave that no foreigners were allowed. Obviously some sort of variable policy.

Twenty Baht per car and away you go I thought the OP was talking about the beach at the Navy Ratings School, just past Bang Saray. Others are talking about the Navy docks where the carrier is based. Nang Ram is a nicer beach and easier access, but it is a fair old drive from Pattaya.
jimcarr65
You can visit the base but you will not be able to board the aircraft carrier that is docked there

Thai looking Asians can just stroll on and off (as long as they dont give the game away by speaking) I live quite near the bases for about 30 yrs. A lot of them military persons know me, as I live between them and do my exersizes in the park, and still I am not allowed to enter a base, some of them I can enter without any ID. Even the Thai police can not enter a Militairy base in the course of an investigation. There is a part of a base where only shops are located like a supermarket, computershop, car repair shop and more and I am not allowed to enter, only Thais. Like you I gave up trying a long time ago. Now my son is of Militairy age and will be drafted so I wonder what will happen at the different holidays that the parents are invited on the base, going to be fun.

Twenty Baht per car and away you go Nang Ram beach is free to enter for everybody, my son used to work there in the seafood restaurant after school. Closes at about 1100 pm and all workers go home under Militair escort as the road there is quite dark and dangerous at night.
JGV
One again an example of Thainess - one day they will wake up and grow up Go to beach near UTapao or Bangsaray - only problem you'll not be alone as mass ownership of cars by THai naval staff ensures queues for the car park so visit usually becomes fairly unpleasant and that's before you witness the rubbish discarded by the visitors who appear to have no manners whatsoever

thinkingman
In January parking was in a lot near the ticket office and baht bus transportation over the hill to the beach all days. Used to be baht buses only on weekends and holidays. Admission to base by exchanging license for a pass about 100 yards off Suk. Admission Bt100 falangs, Bt20 for Thais. It is a nice beach, main complaint is overall dumpiness of the ladies restrooms. Except for that, they have spent some money and effort on bins for garbage, raking, sidewalks, and food court.
