Savanaket

Featured Replies

I have heard you need to show 200000 thousand baht for a marriage visa in savanaket now does anybody know how long it has to be in the bank for.

Cheers

That was a false report.

You can still get a multiple entry non-o visa based upon marriage in Savannakhet without financial proof.

i wonder why this  office plays by more liberal rules

The real question is why do 3 or 4 location nearby ask for financial proof when the majority of other embassy and consulates in the world do not ask for it.

The MFA website does not show financial proof being required to get a non-o visa based upon marriage. The only thing mentioned is the standard 20k baht shown to get all visas.

ok; any ideas on why those 3-4 play by their own but consistent (amongst each other) rules ?

You would have to ask them that.

They even want financial proof to get a single entry non-o visa.

The same reason as dogs lick their balls.

Because they can.

Be sure to tell them your nationality, ie. what passport you will be using AND that it is a multi-entry visa you are after.

There is no financial-reason for increased visa-restrictions on Westerners, other than those benefiting from Elite Visa purchases - but I suspect they know you cannot "bleed-a-turnip" - and those applying in Savanakhet to avoid showing 40K/mo or 400K in the bank, could never afford their offerings, anyway.

There is no shortage of housing for foreigners - quite the contrary, in fact.

Every foreign-dollar spent here benefits Thais, yet people are caught on technicalities at airports (not having enough cash, and not allowed to pull it from an ATM to show), and forced back.

There is the "pivot to China" angle, but every Thai I have encountered prefers Western visitors to Chinese visitors - often adamantly so.

My theory, is there is a certain "clique" in the hierarchy who think there are "too many Farangs" in Thailand, and wish to lower the numbers.  I can find no other reasonable explanation.

hmmm; a bit disturbing; if you are right then they might use the extension process to also reduce the numbers

They have added additional requirements to some types of extensions at some offices.  Finding an amphoe who will marry a farang is becoming significantly more difficult - some outright saying "No Brits or Americans need apply" (due to a clause in our embassy's respective affirmation documents).   The proposed 5/10 year Retirement Visa terms are certainly onerous.  I do worry that once they "finish off" those staying longer-term on Tourist Visas, they will move on to the next group.

But I hasten to add - nothing has been announced in terms of phasing-out existing visa / extension offerings.

You should start a thread on this rather than sidetrack this one.

Definitely no financial proof for non imm o multi based on marriage at savannakhet. Already back at mukdahan with visa picked up this morning. 3 blokes in front of me also the same. So I think we can put that to bed once and for all
