FB page offers Bt1 million reward for head of southern Army chief

A Facebook page has offered a reward of Bt1 million to anyone who could behead the southern Army chief.

 

The offer was posted on the page of “Suding Su Pattany” on Wednesday night.

 

The picture of Lt-General Piyawat Nakwanit, the commander of the Fourth Army Area, was displayed in the Facebook post.

 

The post drew a lot of criticism against the unidentified Facebook user. Many strong and rude comments attacked Muslims and Islam but many others argued that it was not fair to attack the religion.

Southern Army chief says bounty shows insurgents’ desperation

Fourth Army Area Commander Lt-General Piyawat Nakwanit said southern insurgents are in disarray and that is why they have offered a reward of Bt1 million for his head.

 

Piyawat was commenting on a Facebook post by an unidentified user who offered Bt1 million to anyone who could behead him.

 

Piyawat said local residents of the southern border provinces would not be interested in such an offer because they could earn more than Bt1 million if they keep on working on several development projects initiated by the government.

 

He said only insurgents, who have no job and who are hiding in the mountains would be interested in the offer.

 

Piywat said the southern insurgents are now in difficulty because they are not receiving support from local people, from local illegal businesses and from abroad.

 

He said he would not step up security for himself and would go on working.

 

“From another point of view, it would be better if they come to us so that we won’t have to go out to find them,” the southern Army chief said.

4th army region chief shrugs off bounty offer

Fourth Army Region commander Lt-Gen Piyawat Narkvanich has shrugged off the one million baht bounty for his head believed by supporters of southern militants in the three southernmost provinces.

 

When asked about a Facebook post of Suding Su Patani which offered a one million baht reward for anyone who could produce the head of Lt-Gen Piyawat, the regional commander said he was not worried at all with the threat.
