bluesofa
I'm not sure if this is slightly OT, so I apologise if it is. Exactly two years ago I read an article in the newspaper we can't mention, saying that, "The government has decided to use 911 as the main emergency phone number nationwide." It also said, "A national committee, chaired by the prime minister, will be set up to administer the 911 system." I wonder if anyone has heard any more of this, or is two years perhaps too soon for a committee to make a report?

bluesofa
Thanks for the info. I missed the follow up article. I was interested in what was going to happen, but obviously not enough to notice that what the PM said was repudiated. So after the PM said there would be "A national committee, chaired by the prime minister, will be set up to administer the 911 system" , exactly one year later we have: "Thai police have moved swiftly to reassure the public - the emergency number is 191, always has been and always will be." A truly Thai system - it has the same digits: 1,1,9, but not necessarily in the same order. Does that mean it must be my fault for believing the PM is in charge?
