Some 1,000 rai of paddy fields flooded after dyke ruptures

By The Nation

SAKHON NAKHON: -- An irrigation dyke in Sakon Nakhon broke on Wednesday morning after several days of heavy rains, flooding some 1,000 rai of paddy fields in three districts.

Officials said the dyke broke at about 9am, unleashing water from the Nong Harn Lake to flood rice fields in Mueang, Phone Na Kaew and Khok Si Suphan districts.

Ekkapop Sophon, the chief of Khok Si Suphan district, and Phanuwat Boonrod, chief of the Nam Kam Basin Irrigation office, inspected the dyke on Wednesday morning.

The flood waters cut off some village roads, the officials said.

They said Ban Pa Por village, Ban Lad Khor villlage and Ban Dan Muang Kahm village in Tambon Dan Muang Kham in Khok Si Suphan were the hardest hit by the flooding.

Ekkapop said officials were draining the floodwaters via the That Phanom district’s floodgate in Nakhon Phanom province.

He said a bulldozer has been dispatched to fix the broken dyke.

I thought rice  paddys were always flooded...

After harvest they let them dry so they can burn the stubble to keep the hospital asthma admissions up to budget.  About 6 years ago I had to hospitalize my wife for that exact reason.  Still bad in our area but many other parts are much worse off.  She hasn't been that bad since then fortunately.

I thought the great leader promised no more flooding?

I thought  he  promised  to   make  best efforts  to prevent  flooding. Am  quite  sure  he  was  not the  one  to  remove  his  digit  from  the  dyke.

That was conditional upon it stopped raining. And no more cloud seeding.
