I had no idea some people have been detained for years, all because they have no money for an air ticket. At some point in time, it's cost effective for the Thai government to actually purchase the air ticket for deportation. I'm not a fan of the detained person's home country tax payer paying for the air ticket, nor the Thai tax payer, but at some stage it becomes cheaper for Thailand to buy the air ticket rather than keep the person detained. I have suggested one possible solution in another thread, or, they could put a time limit on the detention, say 60 days, and if an individual can not raise the money after this time, chances are they never will, so Thailand should buy the air ticket. Also, 2 month is Thai detention is deterrent enough for people to buy their own air ticket out.
