CHACHOENGSAO: -- The mother of a 14-year-old schoolgirl who was found raped and murdered in her home in Chachoengsao’s Ban Pho district on the night of July 12 said on Thursday that she would not cremate her child’s body until the suspect apologised for what he had done.

Meanwhile, provincial police chief Pol Maj-General Theerapol Jindaluang said authorities would not bring the suspect to re-enact the crime until they could assure his safety.

Police arrested woodcutter Supornchai Noonoi, 31, at 5am on Wednesday after tests of his DNA matched semen samples found on the girl’s clothes.

After police discovered that Supornchai had not shown up for work after the crime and that he had arrest warrants pertaining to three other rape cases in Khon Kaen in 2008, 2015 and last year, they inspected his room and collected a DNA sample.

It was reported that he had often joked to get the girl’s attention when he bought groceries from a shop near the girl’s home.

Police also collected DNA samples from 25 other men living in the neighborhood.

The investigation found that Supornchai had fled to Chon Buri’s Panat Nikhom district where he allegedly stole a motorcycle and then fled back to Ban Pho, where he was arrested.

Supornchai also allegedly broke into a house and raped another 30-year-old woman in Panat Nikhom.

Police have said that Supornchai admitted to breaking into the 14-year-old’s house at about 2am, raping the girl who had been asleep, suffocating her to death, and then putting her clothes back on and arranging her in a sleeping pose to conceal the crime.

He has been charged with rape, murder and intruding into a home during the night.

The girl was home alone on the night of the crime. Her mother returned home at 4am found the girl’s dead body.

A Chachoengsao-based social media page initially speculated that she had died when part of her dental braces slipped out of place and became stuck in her throat. However, police said an initial medical examination found nothing lodged in her throat and they later determined that she had been raped and killed.

They must just issue the warrants, then put them back into the pending file ?

Really, 3 other warrants, for such despicable, inhumane crimes, and they eventually catch him NINE years later, after raping and murdering a poor young girl !

Unbelievable.

No other reason for not re-inacting a rape and murder?

Why would the mother want an apology from him?

What's that about for goodness sakes.

I guess it's some cultural, spiritual, or superstitious rite that the mother thinks is necessary for her daughter's peaceful passing.

Personally, I don't believe in such things - but, if it gives the mother any slight comfort, then I support it.

Agree 100% Should never of come to this. If the police did there job and followed up on the outstanding warrants he would be locked away.

He looks like what the FBI's behavioral  sciences unit would call a "disorganized" serial rapist. One more murder following a cooling-off period would also have classified him as a serial killer. I have no doubt he would have killed some future rape victim had he not been caught.

The land of smiles, slowly ...piece by piece, self destructs.  Maybe I've been here too long, becoming disheartened and somewhat desensitized by the goofy <deleted> roaming the soi's, and those wearing uniforms.

I walked into a police station with a fresh arrest warrant issued by the court. Gave local address and location of arrestee and they still wanted $$$$$ to go arrest him. Go figure.

What you may not understand is that even with a court arrest warrant and presenting the person after a citizens arrest at the police station - in my experience money was demanded or else I was told the criminal would be released.  Ended up costing me 19,000 baht to have the person arrested - and that after a 'high ranking' person became involved to reduce the 50,000 baht originally demanded.

In the West we expect police to act on court issued arrest warrants and make at least some effort to find the person; and certainly not expect to have to pay the police for the privilege.   The end result is criminals are left in society because the victims cannot afford to pay to have them arrested and this poor girl has paid that price.
