Australian falls to his death in Bangkok

Australian old-age pensioner has apparently committed suicide in Bangkok by jumping from the 18th floor of his apartment building after his young Thai girlfriend left him.

Police said Donald Henshall left a note written with his own blood before jumping from the balcony of his room at the Nasa Vegas Tower in the city's Suanlang district on New Year's Day.

They said the note read: "I love you, Pim". Police said Mr Henshall had checked into the apartment block around Christmas Day with a Thai woman identified as Pim - a common nickname in Thailand.

Police said the man was apparently heart-broken when the woman deserted him.

He apparently slit his wrist and used his blood to write the note before plunging to his death, police said.

They did not give the age of the man or where in Australia he came from.
