SUKHOTHAI, 01 August 2017, (NNT) - The situation in the flood hit province of Sukhothai is reportedly returning to normal, after the overflowing Yom River crippled local businesses.

Previously the province’s fresh market was submerged in over 50 centimeters of water which affected more than 50 vendors in the province's commercial district. Businesses are now running as usual after municipal officers cleaned up the venue.

According to the vendors, the most severe flooding Sukothai ever experienced was in 2012, while praising the officials for being well-prepared for this year's disaster. Local authorities will continue to monitor the situation despite the improvement.

Similarly in Phichit, the floodwater inundating the province is being drained into Nan and Yom rivers. Low-lying areas will continue to be monitored as more rain can be expected. The prolonged inundation is affecting 11 districts, 1,597 households and 57,000 rai of farmland in the city.
