My retirement visa is due in October for a one year extension . I went to Laos with a friend on the way out of Laos the Thailand immigration officer in the booth gave me a stamp for a year visa .

Does this cancel out my one year renewal in October? Do I have to show proof of income and start the whole process again or the one year extension will work?

If you have a non-immigrant 'O-A' visa then you get a new 1 year permit to stay every time you enter the country until the 'enter before' (expiry) date printed on the visa.

  • You now can wait and apply for a 1 year extension in 1 years time.
  • If you leave the country again, after the visa expires and before the current 1 year permit has ended, you should buy a re-entry permit to keep the permit to stay alive.

If you don't have a non 'O-A' the IO has made a mistake which needs to be corrected.

If you have a OA visa issued by an embassy or consulate you get a new one year entry every time you enter the country up to the enter before date on the visa. After the enter before date you will need a re-entry permit to keep the last entry valid if you want to travel.

If you have an extension of stay issued by an immigration office they made a mistake and you will have get the stamping error corrected.

Difficulties in terms of creating problems for people to explain and help out. Use correct terms and get a more precise and correct answer, simple as that...

Until the OP returns to confirm where he obtained his 'retirement visa' it Is not possible to comment about the correctness or otherwise of the stamp placed in the passport.
