CityNews – Thailand was awarded the best country to start a business in 2017 by US News. According to their website, “Best Countries is a rankings, news and analysis project created to capture how countries are perceived on a global scale. The rankings evaluate 80 countries across 24 rankings drawn from a survey of more than 21,000 global citizens, measuring 75 dimensions that have the potential to drive trade, travel and investment and directly affect national economies.”

It is the second year in a row for Thailand to win the first place as world’s best countries to start a business and Thailand also ranks overall at 26th for best countries of the world. According to the US News, the Best Countries to Start a Business are ranked based on scores from more than 6,000 business decision-makers on a compilation of five equally weighted country attributes: affordable, bureaucratic, cheap manufacturing costs, connected to the rest of the world and provides easy access to capital.

Quite a few failed bar owners will disagree with this. :coffee1:

For Thai people? 55

They usually failed for good reason. Come on.

Given that its US News, there is a high chance that they have mixed up Thailand and Taiwan. What a joke. I wonder who the competition was? Angola? North Korea?

Meaning most easiest country to start a business. if only they had a ranking for most failed businesses, would Thailand win that too.

I am pretty sure this is about foreign companies setting up offices in Thailand  which is quite different than Nigel from Kent and Noi from Buriram coming up with a novel idea to open a bar.

and most likely under the Thailand Treaty of Amity :giggle:

It is easy to start a business and also easy to get scam as well. Just be very careful.

Having followed the link from Ralf 61, it never fails to amaze me how the Thai press corrupt, distort and false report anything that may be detrimental to the image of Thailand. Is Big brother censoring them, I wonder???

Yep, best place to start... and end a business.  I see numerous business failures daily in Pattaya

Only have to check out the entrepreneurship, ranked #35

Under which we have the most important aspect for any business

"Well-developed legal framework 0.1 "

The only lower score would have been 0.0 :whistling:

With all the 'red tape'. Ha Ha

I would have never expected that

... and there are also no traffic jams either!

The 4th place for the Best Countries for Adventure
The 6th place for the Best Countries for Movers
The 7th place for the Best Countries for Heritage
The 8th place for the Best Countries to Travel Alone

They've left a few out

The 1st place for the Best Countries to die in a car crash

The 2nd place for the Best drowning

The 3rd place for the Best Junta

Maybe they think the rest of the world cannot do checks on the internet as they control the web or are just plain bloody liars.

Best Country to invest in and :burp:the lot!

I thought foreigners could only hold a maximum 49% minority share in any business in Thailand. Or am I wrong?

How do these big American restaurant chains get around that?

Really???  Must be great for Thais, foreigner invests 100% of the capital and puts in all the knowledge and hard work and then by law he has to hand over 51% to a thai who contributes absolutely nothing.

" Thailand Best Country to Start a Business in the World... "

... said no REAL entrepreneur EVER!

Best is an over blown exaggeration.  For a foreigner, is has lots of pitfalls, but it is inexpensive, so you are allowed to make mistakes which in other places would be expensive. Cost of office space can be cheap as well, but the overall hassles make it a place with nice, inexpensive resources to use once in a while, not a place to setup shop.

Just make sure your Thai partners are in amongst the local business elites and you'd have a decent chance of not getting rubbed the wrong way.

for Chiangmai.... it's got a good chance to be true....

small businesses.

only Davao and Cebu are any hotter in growth, or maybe not even them...

Chiangmai is blistering.

And that those Thai partners are blood relatives of your Thai wife, who is the same generation as you and with whom you have had a fairly good relationship for no less than 5 years.

Hm, "best country to start a business" looks somewhat different:

Thanks for the link. "Easiest Country to start a Business" would have been a much more accurate title.  In country rankings overall Thailand is ranked 26 out of 80.

US citizens get special privilege under treaty of amity.
