KHON KAEN: -- The brother of a knife victim went online to say that Khon Kaen was getting scarier after a "motiveless" attack at a gas station.

The violence happened at a PTT station on the Friendship Highway near the North eastern University on Monday night.

Thai Rath reported that a total of seven men - some with long knives - attacked 18 year old university freshman Sithikorn leaving him seriously wounded in hospital.

His family have given police various CCTV footage that shows the victim trying to flee before coming up against a high wall and being unable to escape.

Many young people join in the attack after arriving on motorcycles.

Neungburut Wongnarat went on Facebook to say that the victim was his younger brother and wrote:

"Khon Kaen is getting scarier everywhere. If they don't catch these people next time it could be your relative".

He appealed for help in catching the assailants and said there was a reward.

Thai Rath described the attack as apparently without motive.

Evolutionary instinct, survival of the fittest, at least nature is sorting itself out.

"His family have given police various CCTV footage..."

Shouldn't it be the other way round?

"He appealed for help in catching the assailants..."

Again, isn't this the cops job?

"...and said there was a reward."

Expect BIB to show up with palms out after the public do their jobs for them. Pathetic state of affairs.

My bet would be that the teen knew his attackers and has had previous encounters

Utterly despicable! What's wrong with such <deleted>.Retards!

A side from the mild arthritic discomfort in my left knee, I am in relative good health.

And how are you today?

Utterly disgraceful state of affairs when after a mob attack with knives, recorded on CCTV, that you have to offer a reward to find the perpetrators. Why exactly does this country have a police force, apart from to collect money from motorists and business owners?

Asked and answered.

But don't forget flowing much of the collected money up the food chain, along with the revenue from buying positions.

as horrible as this sounds, lets hope this is not a totally random attack and that there was some history with these people.

i live in Hua Hin and besides the one off bombings and the rare drunk tourist versus Thai fights, we don't have much of a problem here, but the idea of being set upon for no reason at all is really scary to me.

That video clearly shows attempted murder. 500 baht fine ?

I would really hope to see a proper custodial sentence for at least 5 of those guys...

surely there must have been some reason behind the attack.

Isn't Khon Kaen famed for its cock fights?

No, usually one farang gives up when he realizes he's better off letting her go.

There is a contingent of teens who hang out by Bueng Kaen Nakhon early evening, smoking weed and pounding beers...I usually would get the hell out of there when they started to congregate as they looked like a crew who could start some serious trouble.

anyone bothered reporting them to the police?

Farangs fighting over local girl?

Now I'm confused, isn't it the local girls/boys/katoeys fighting over the farang?

It's about teens out and about on bikes at night with nothing to do, the old social orders are breaking down everywhere to embrace the new PC progressive lifestyle.

The west is little different, for reasons that escape me young men in a group feel manly for ganging up on a single and beating the crap out of him.

Can't watch this I have a Son of 17 living Thailand and his future scares me, seriously considering moving back to UK or getting them in School where I work

Will be enquiring about the latter today

that's a very unusual occurance though. some parts of the uk are pretty bad too. people throwing acid in each others faces seems to be the norm now

Where I come from yes, but that not where I will live. When they were kids I moved them from the UK back to Thailand in 2002 when I started work in Taiwan. I thought at the time Thailand was a better place for them to live. I don't think that now. many things have changed or my Thai tinted glasses have been removed

I've lived in Khon Kaen for 12 years, and have always felt safer than when I lived in UK. I also walk around the lake early evening, and never see any youths congregating, only the stray dogs, and even they don't bother you if you are inside the perimeter of the lake.

Just curious, is he currently schooled in Thailand and are you satisfied with the education he received?

fair enough. I just read the papers back home and it reminds me why I prefer it out here. sure, it's not perfect. nowhere is but I think it's pretty safe all round. I suppose with kids the main issue would be getting them into a decent school which costs money out here.  well it does in the uk to a certain extent having to pay extra live in catchments areas or sending them private

I thought it was only seven or more on to one when Thais attacked farangs?

Yes, they go to English/Thai schools both Fluent in both languages writing and speaking.  I thought it was important for them to speak Thia as we intended to stay in Thailand.Boy is naturally bright and has taken Science as his subject which includes maths and English, Girl is particularly good at English her Vocabulary is better than mine (From East London so I'm not at the Top of Vocabulary league) but in all seriousness, she has a talent for Languages started doing Mandarin Chinese in school. She has her options this Year and she's going to concentrate on Languages. The problem with Thailand is the universities are not rated highly. So I may take them elsewhere when the time comes

Good to hear. Its rare to hear of positive sentiments on the education here, even for supposed International schools.

Agree totally where I come from what used to be a safe place to live, plenty of scoundrels, but not in a violent way. Now all my mates have moved out because its turned into an unsafe shithole

Yeah since the started school, I had problems with their mother, gambling, mainly. So I got custody of my kids and put them in decent nursery schools.

yep. most of my mates moved from Battersea out to surrey. nearly all my mates from east London moved out to Essex or kent. sure you get more for your money moving out but it was really the scum being brought up on the estates that made most people move out. thieving lazy junkies all over the place. not everyone of course. but enough to make you think it's probably nicer somewhere else. especially if bringing up kids
