PHITSANULOK: -- Overnight heavy downpours caused a canal to overflow and flood a school in Phitsanulok’s None Maprang district early Wednesday, prompting the cancellation of classes for a day.

It was the second time this season that the Ban Nam Pad school in Moo 3 village in Tambon Chompu was hit by flash flooding, the first time was on July 27.

School director Kate Tuankrua said the Nam Pad Canal broke its banks and flooded the school at 3am. At its peak, the water level was almost two-metres high.

By 9.30am, the water started to recede, he added.

Teachers and local villagers cleaned up the school in the afternoon after the water receded.

The storm we got hit with last night was by far the worst one so far this year that we have seen in Phits, major sound & light show with some mega gusts of wind thrown in with the rain.

Seemed to come out of nowhere, yes, it was a bit overcast earlier but didn't expect that.
