Nation marks Queen’s 85th birthday anniversary

 

 

The nation today (Aug 12) celebrates Her Majesty the Queen’s 85th birthday anniversary with religious activities, charities and prays for her.

 

Today is  also the National Mother’s Day.

 

Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha this morning presided over a religious ceremony to offer alms to 851 monks at the royal plaza in front of the Dusit Palace.

 

In the provinces, provincial governors also held alms-offering ceremonies in the morning to mark Her Majesty’s birthday anniversary.

In the UK, the mother of the monarch and erstwhile consort of the late monarch is known officially as "The Queen Mother." The late Queen Mother Elizabeth  lived to over 100 and was beloved by all.

 

In Thailand, it would appear that the personage in the same position is known as "The Queen." Good to know given the sensitivities in these matters.
