No, a spasm is like an electric shock that jerks you awake, nothing like a cramp, which usually has some pain associated with it.

Yes, I can see the difference now. But still it is worthwhile to google "Buteyko Breathing Exercise" and see if it helps. I guess it will, because my case was severe pain during the cramp. It was excruciatingly painful that is why I was desperate to try the breathing exercise after the potassium and magnesium failed.

Bit of an aggressive reply.

Best stop now, ok ?

You may be right faraday. But when the doctor could only give me painkiller for my pain it is not good at all. I took Ayuverdic Indian herbal pills for the pain and it was gone with not side effects. Am I not grateful for that? Or do I need to take painkiller until my kidney are damaged?

I only took the herbal pills for a week not a long term drug dependent way to solve my problem.

I am grateful to the Ayuverdic Indian herbal medicine, think what you may, call them quacks if you like but when you are in pain for years you will know what I am talking about.

You may be an Engineer but it doesn't help if you have tunnel vision when it comes to other things.

Maybe try electrolytes. Available from any pharmacy.

Covered/suggested above re: magnesium and potassium. Perhaps calcium as well?
It sounds as though it has become a life quality issue, and worthy of consulting a doctor again. Preferably one who will order a blood  test to check for any vitamin or mineral deficiencies. I think that would be more productive than our scattershot TV diagnoses and prescriptions, as there is more than one possible cause.
It does awaken me several times a night... my girlfriend has it and often likes to sleep with a leg over mine. She also suffers frequent leg cramps, but has started calmag supplements, and I do bug her about seeing the doctor for it.  Still a bit novel experience for me, and so sort of enjoyable, but I do not sleep well anymore being  a superannuated type.
If Sheryl makes a suggestion I would say follow it for sure.

What are you berating me for? I think you're confusing my posts with 'tryasimight'

I think Western Medicine can be very flawed at times, also quite blinkered too.

I think TCM/Acupuncture is very effective at treating people. But don't try attempting to get many on tv to agree.

Sorry if I berate you don't really mean to. Anyway, we all only convinced if we have actual experience of what is happening to ourself so no pointing in trying to tell others they wouldn't listen till they cry out for help.

OP - see a specialist  in sleep disorders and have a sleep study

Nightime myoclonus is sometimes related to sleep apnea. Or there may be other sleep issue that causes you to be sleeping lightly enough for these jerks to awaken you.

No good if you have an enlarged prostate apparently.

I have frequent muscle spasms during the day and also when I had a huge prostate gland which was reduced surgically. Norgesic had an immediate impact on my spasms. Now I still take one a night.

The restless legs are more of a feeling of discomfort than pain, but the spasms that jerk me awake as I'm about to drop off are painless.

I had the same, and so i went to see a spine specialist, and he gave me Meloxicam 7.5mg,  and Gabapentin 300mg.   It sorted me out.  sleep well now.
