Hundreds of people from Myanmar have rushed to the Nakhon Maesot International Hospital in Tak to be vaccinated against the 2009 H1N1 flu.

Local residents also queued to get the vaccine from the private hospital located in the northern province bordering Myanmar. Hundreds of people queued up yesterday. The rush followed a report that 26 people had died in Myanmar after contracting the deadly flu strain. About 400 people in Myanmar are believed to have been infected with H1N1. There was also a report that a Thai man in Tak had died from the flu. Hospital staff said demand for the vaccine was so high that they had begun to run out of stock.

Where can we get Flu shots here on Samui?

You can get the regular seasonal flu shots in Samui at Thai Inter or Bangkok Hospital.  I got mine a couple of months ago at Thai Inter (and glad I did, because 3 weeks ago my partner got Influenza A -- confirmed by a hospital test in Bangkok -- but I remained immune).

But I'm not sure whether you can get vaccinated there against H1N1, which is what this post is about, and which the regular annual flu shot -- to my knowledge -- would not protect you against.

I got a flu shot today, Monday 21/8, at Ram Hospital in Chiang Mai.  Read a sign in the room and I believe H1N1 is indeed listed as one of the four strains included in this years vaccine.
