Thailand braces itself for influences of Typhoon Hato

 

BANGKOK, 23 August 2017 (NNT) - The Royal Irrigation Department has instructed irrigation projects nationwide to prepare for the influences of Typhoon Hato expected to cause heavy rains from 23-28 August 2017. 

Director-General of the Royal Irrigation Department Sanchai Ketworachai said Typhoon Hato will strengthen the southwestern monsoon, resulting in more rains and heavy rains in some areas in the northern, northeastern and western region as well as the western part of the South. 

The department therefore instructed all irrigation projects, especially those in flood-prone areas, to prepare for possible flooding by closely monitoring the water situation and make sure that irrigation structures work to full capacity. As for the flood-prone areas, at least one water pump must be installed and other equipment must be ready for use so as to provide timely assistance for the flood-affected people.

so the instruction to have working one water pump will be sufficient to pump away a few hundred cubic metres per hour across the entire flood prone  region ?  This guy is either yet another Thai male ignoramus or else something has been lost in translation.  Or simply both

I presume the pump mentioned shall have a good capacity.

But sometimes nature is stronger as anything humans can fight it with.

Then you can only hope!
