My UK passport is due to run out in a few years but there are only 2 pages left in it. My yearly Non O extension is due early next year.

What would be the easiest, least running around and hassle-free way of tackling this?

1. Get a new passport first and then get the extension?

If I go to Immigration with a brand new passport, will they stamp the 'Under consideration/come back in 30 days' into it, or ask me to transfer stamp from old pp into new before applying for extension?

2. Get the extension next year then apply for a new passport?

Thanks.

They will add 9 months of validity from your old passport to the new one when you apply for the new passport.

1. They would transfer all the stamps before doing the application and you would then need to make of copy of the 2 pages of the stamps transferred to your new new passport to attach to the application.

2. It is choice of how you would rather do it. But you would only have one page left in your passport after you get the extension done.

You would still need to have the stamps transferred.

I had this issue recently. The extension plus a multi entry stamp will take up the last 2 pages of your passport leaving no space for other stamps if you want to travel.

Get the new passport and transfer your current visa/permission to stay in it. Then renew in that passport when the time comes.

Afterthought:

Can the officer dealing with the extension transfer the stamp into the new PP or is it a different section (which means queueing up again!!)?

It depends upon which office you have to go to.

At smaller offices it might be done by the same officer.

Chaengwattana, Joe.

They have different desks. First the stamp transfer and then the extension.

So,first; new passport and then get stamp transferred BEFORE new extension.
