A young man was killed and two others injured when their Toyota Fortuner vehicle crashed into the rear of an 18-wheel trailer truck that was making a U-turn on the inbound Bang Na-Trat Road in Chacheongsao province’s Bang Pakong district on Friday morning.

Following report of the crash 5.50am, police and rescue workers went to the accident scene in Tambon Tha Kham and found the severely damaged Toyota Fortuner in the inner right lane near the U-turn while the 18-wheeler was parked on the left side of the inbound lanes. The trailer truck driver, Han Bantherngjai, waited for police at the scene.

Rescue workers found the body of Natthapong Somsinsawat, 24, in the driver’s seat while his two injured male passengers were rushed to Bang Pakong Hospital.

Chacherngsao Highway police officers Pol Senior Sgt-Major Natthasit Saiwa and Pol Senior Sgt-Major Prakatpol Rungreung-ngern, who witnessed the crash as they were driving from the outbound lane, said the 18-wheeler was making a U-turn when the Toyota Fortuner, on the inner right lane, crashed into its rear resulting in the death and casualties.

Police initially suspected that Natthapong might have been drunk while driving as the truck cabin carried the smell of alcohol.

Good news for once.  Driving within their capability is not a Thai trait. Typical Fortuner driver,  this time he rear ended an immovable object . If Thais drove within their capabilities they would never be on a highway.

Nothing unusual. Just hot blood went cold...
