Hello,

I'm from Italy, this year I'm having my gap year and I'm thinking about going to Thailand to take a massage course. The course is about 80 days long and the school will send me a letter of accreditation to apply for a 90 days non-immigrant ED visa.

My problem is that I would stay longer than the duration of the visa. I want to have enough time before the start of the course to find an accomodation and then after the end of the course I'd like to take another advanced course for other 2 weeks in another school and do some tourism.

What I'd like to do is to ask the school to request the visa starting 9 days before the course starts and expiring the next day after the course ends, then visit a neighbour country an re-enter Thailand as a tourist using the visa exemption for other 30 days. Do you think is it possible?

And if I'd like to stay longer, what could I do?

And if I'd like to arrive some weeks before the cours starts, could I enter Thailand with the visa exemption having already the education visa issued? For example: arrive in Thailand 3 weeks before the course with visa exemption, leave Thailand for a neighbour country and re-enter the day the education visa starts, leave Thailand for a neighbour country and re-enter again with the visa exemption for other 30 days. Could it be possible?

Thank you and have a nice day!

No worries the visa will start counting from the day you arrive in Thailand for 90 days not the date of issue of the visa

You can leave the country and enter 3 times after your Non Imm visa expires getting 30 days each time

You could do as above or go to an embassy in a neighbouring country and apply for a tourist visa which will give you 60 days plus another 30 days if you extend it in country.

I wouldn't plan on that as I said the visa starts from the day of entry and if you are unlucky the immigration officer may well activate your visa and not give you the 30day entry stamp as you expect.

The best would be if you could get a multi entry Non Imm visa then you could stay upto 1 year just by leaving and re entering every 90 days.

Unfo in Italy either in Milano o Roma they will not issue Non Imm multi Entry,

only single entry of 3 moths is available, which you could extend for one year

only in case you have the rights.

In my case (Milan) I'm asking for multi B (and multi O for my IT wife)

but looks they will going to give me only single B and O.

When I will have work permit I can go to imm Dept. locally and eventually extend it

for one year, but I have a new company and possible they will not allow me

the extension because no profit has been achieved so far... obviously is new....

but this seems to me the Thai rules.

Regards & ciao
