A psychiatrist would be warranted only if medications needed to be prescribed and most psychologists have one they refer to. A psychiatrist will spend max 5 minutes with the patient before prescribing....whereas psychologists provide various types of therapy in one hour (50 minute) sessions. Except for people who are outright psychotic (in which case they won't be able to benefit from therapy anyhow until their though patterns are more rational) it is always best to at least start with a psychologist Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
