Multiple entries - What kind af visa

Featured Replies

Background: I`m Danish. 49 years of age, becoming 50 in January. I have been living with a thai girl for the past 4 years. Not married yet but we have discussed it. We stay in a rented bungalow. She takes care of a small business we established a year ago while i work as a mobile crane operator in (mainly) Denmark. Planning to retire in 8-10 years or so.

I have the past 20 years frequently been visiting Thailand as a tourist with visa exemption on arrival and a single trip to Malaysia for a 2 month visa earlier this year. Never had any issues with the authorities except for a couple of fines running on motorbike without helmet.

In 2014 i worked on a project in Sweden. 5-6 weeks of work with 2 weeks off in which i traveled to Thailand getting a visa exemption and same story in 2015 and last year this time from Egypt. Never any issues, however i have been warned by many of my friends down here not to continue down that path, and instead ask for a proper visa.

I still have (officially) residence in Denmark, but i have been given thoughts about moving to Thailand.. I get a lot of "good advises" how to work around the rules, but really i want to do this the right way.

Could i start with applying for a 1 year visa with multiple entries and then slowly work my way ahead a retirement visa next year when i become 50. ??

What do you guys think. ??

There is no 1 year multiple entry visa you can apply for now as you are under 50 and not married to a Thai.

You can apply for a six months multiple entry tourist visa and then apply for one year non-O based on retirement when you become 50.

Info on the METV is here.

There is no 1 year ME visa that you qualify for until you get to 50, and even then it doesn't look like the Copenhagen Embassy offer such a visa unless you are in receipt of pension income. You might get one from the Consulate in Penang with enough money in the bank. If you are living in Thailand, once you turn 50 you could get a SE non 'O' visa and apply for a 1 year extension of stay. Once you have the extension of stay you can get a ME re-entry permit that would allow you to come and go during that year.

If you were married you'd have no problem getting a 1 year ME visa or an extension of stay before or after age 50.
