Security forces close in on Songkhla suspects

Authorities will soon issue more arrest warrants in relation to the hostage-taking, murder, and theft of multiple pickup trucks in Songkhla’s Na Thawi district on August 16.

Col Yutthanam Phetmuang, the Internal Security Operations Command Region 4 spokesman, reported in an update on the investigation that, so far, one out of six wanted men had turned himself in.

Attanan Sa-ei, 36, surrendered to Army Region 4 chief Lt General Piyawat Nakwanich in Songkhla last Friday, but denied the 10 charges filed against him.

Yutthanam said Attanan had been interrogated by rangers and had been passed on to Na Thawi police.

Na Thawi Court last Monday approved arrest warrants for five other suspects: Bukhori Lamsoh, 28, Rosari Lamsoh, 26, Sulaiman Samoh, 35, Sarisan-Hamri Deuramae, 35, and Abdulloh Madae, 34.

Following a long day of dramatic incidents, which ended in the deaths of a hostage and one suspect, authorities took four suspects in custody under the emergency decree. They were interrogated over their alleged links to the robbery, Yutthanam said, and this led to useful information about insurgent network members. More arrest warrants would be sought soon.

Yutthanam also said that authorities had also interviewed a Thai couple whose pick-up truck was stolen early in the morning on August 16 for use in the multiple truck robbery at Wangto Car Centre in Na Thawi.

They were questioned as persons of interest, but they were released shortly after, as the officers believed they had no connection to the attackers.
