Good Day

We would like to take my Step-son who is 5 over to uk to live here with us ,My wife (Thai )Has her indenifinite leave to remain visa ,and will soon be getting uk passport ,My question is ,what paperwork is required for to bring her son over here to live with us ,at the moment he is looked after by grandparents with family name on his birth document ,

Any help on this process would be great

I would be the sponsor which is no problem ,and having done all the relevant paperwork for my wife i was wondering how difficult it would be for step-son

Thanks Davies

Hi sarangon,

I believe Davies is one part of a two surname Company header, not as I think you believe the first name of 'Davies Khan'.

Unless of course you are fully aware that Davies is the surname and you are a constituent member of the British Military or Nobility and use surnames as a matter of course in everyday conversation, if so I think it is quite amusing. :D:o

Apart from that I think you will get considerable info from the thread scouse has posted in his reply, if you have any further questions after reading the thread, please post again I am sure there will be further help.

Good Luck

Moss :D

Hi All to-day was very stressfull ,submitted the paperwork to VAFS ,they checked the paperwork ,all was ok ,they said it would take a week before we can begin to track it ,and 15 days to a month for decision on next step ,Interview or Granted visa ,well i hope it is option 2 ,

If it is interview required do i need to contact the vasf to arrange date or do they send a date for you to attend? ,We have to travel back to UK in a week and leave the thai contact phone number with my wifes father, this is a bit of a worry

Anyway thanks to ollie for the express translation service reccommendation, they did a first class job in one day ,And scouser for all his knowledge and Gu22 as well

I am off up the jungle for a week

so no net for a while

Ok Scouser thanks

what will be the form of contact if Interview is required ?

saranagon,

Keep an eye on the tracking service on the VFS website, you will get a message either to collect passports or that you are required to attend an interview. You then have to contact the VFS service to arrange a date.

Ours is very soon now!!

Good luck.

Saranagon, as your step-son is only 5, he wont be interviewed. From Diplomatic Service Procedures - Entry clearance Volume 1 - General instructions Chapter 8 – How to apply for an entry clearance – the process, 8.13 - Interviews

Children

Children under 10 yrs are too young to be interviewed. It is appropriate for you to interview a responsible adult such as the parent or guardian if the child is to travel alone......

So, they may wish to interview whoever is looking after the boy at the moment, but provided all the documents are OK, especially the sole custody issue, then IMHO this is very unlikely.

Thats interesting GU22,

My wife has to go for her interview shortly and has to take my step-son, who is 3.5yo with her. Scouse suggested it may be to establish he exists, although lots of evidence was provided of that (birth cert, passport etc).

Its still puzzling me a bit?

Puzzles me a bit, too.

My wife and step-daughter applied at the same time, and the girl was interviewed at the same time as her mother. But this is consistent with the DSPs as she was 10.

Children between 10 and 14 years should be interviewed only in the presence of a responsible adult who is either the parent or guardian. Questions should be confined to relatively simple matters and details of immediate family.

There's a difference between being required to attend the embassy and being interviewed. A 3.5-year-old-child will not be interviewed, but the adult who accompanies him will be. However, the visa officer still gets to make a visual assessment of the child without having to speak to him/her. To take the point to absurd lengths, if the application form states that the child is male and yet the applicant at the embassy is female, the ECO knows somethings awry.
