One-way Ticket With Type O Visa

Recommended Posts

Arrival on a one way ticket is possible, but they are hard to find. Many airlines do not offer one way tickets to Thailand. Just fill your departure immigration slip with a fictive flight number. No immigration officer in the airport has ever asked to see my ticket at arrival.

Immigration is not the problem for traveling on a one way ticket. It is the airlines that enforce the rule if you don't have a visa.

One way tickets can be found but will normally be more expensive than half of a round trip ticket on most airlines.

Having used 1 way tickets to Thailand on at least a dozen occassions I would have to disagree.

Also leave your departure card blank - you will have no problem.

Only been asked about my visa status once at check in, and then only verbal confirmation was required.

I have been living in Thailand for 20 years and have never been asked to show an outward ticket on arrival in Thailand (and usually I don't have any visa). BUT a few years ago, I went to check in for flight from UK to Bangkok and was asked (by the airline) to buy a ticket out of Thailand before they would let me board. I bought the cheapest ticket I could find (to a neighbouring country) and later got a refund (less a certain fee). Since then I never had any more problems until this week when I went to check in for a flight from Dubai to Bangkok (with TG). The person in charge said I needed to have a ticket from Bangkok to my home country!! I ended up having to buy a ticket costing 30,000 baht!!

Can anybody tell where it is written (besides in this forum) that the ticket has to be to your own country? This government web site does not even mention having to have any outward ticket: http://www.mfa.go.th/web/2482.php?id=2490

There is no requirement for you to have a ticket to your home country. All that is required is a return or onward ticket.

If you are told that again ask them to check the info that IATA provides that all airlines have access to.

You can do the same thing by using this link provided by Delta that takes you to IATA website. Just select your home country and Thailand. You will find the ticket requirements by clicking the details link. Link: http://www.delta.com/planning_reservations...ation/index.jsp

Thanks Ubon Joe. I will now make a complaint to TG, though I don't expect any reply! Of course their web site does not seem to have an address for customer service, though I did see in the in-flight magazine that we can write to [email protected]

By the way, their FAQ at their web site includes:

Q. What documents do I need to present at check-in?

A. For international flights, your passport with visa (if required at the destination), and your ticket.

So that's not very helpful.
