Just relating my experience.

GF applied for visa last May travel from June -August visa granted no problem.

I was surprised by me experience with the staff at the Embassy.

One thing different she does have a SCHENGEN VISA MULTIPAL ENTRY.

All we had to show was copy of my passport her passport proof that she had 25000tbart in bank and my letter of sponsorship. She had a ticket for three months and 4 days later visa.

This is why so little documentation was asked for.

She is going back Monday .

Now my question from Thai visa.

How soon can she apply again for visa?

HI Bizz,

I don't know the Irish immigration rules, but I would suggest to give it 3 months before reapplying; i.e. half the time in Thailand and half in Ireland.

Scouse.

Hi Bizz

How did the girlfriend like Ireland? Mine, wasnt too happy with the weather and we had an awful job trying to get some spicy food.I would leave it for a few months before applying again but you shouldnt have any big problem.

You were lucky getting a visa so easily, was she in Europe before?

hi bizz,

I take it ur from the south. I'm From the north and am hoping my GF can visit next summer. I have duel nationality Irish / British. We'r probably going to try The UK. But after reading ur post i might try the Irish route instead. Does anyone know if it is possible for her to stay in Northern ireland under an Irish visa??

No, although people from Northern Ireland qualify for dual nationality, politically, it is still the United Kingdom and your g/f would require a UK visa.

Hi Bizz

I think your experience of the 4 day visa was an exception rather than the rule!

Most applications take 3 weeks to be referred ftom Bkk to Dublin (via KL)

And then take another3-4 weeks to pocess in Dublin

I guess your GF has travelled in europe a lot before or is in her 30s?

When my friend applied he was turned down 3 times, despite having all the paperwork that was neccessary

Eventually he got it in June and was here for July/August

He liked the irish weather and had no problem with getting the right food.

But he didn't like the Irish people (dublin) or the Irish Pubs!

Tripperj

The UK visa is generally easier to obtain then an Irish visa as the Irish visa is very subjective. With a UK visa ur GF gets to talk to the person who is granting them the visa, and providing her story checks out and the paperwork is in order she will get the visa

With an irish visa, u never get to see or even contact the visa officer directly, and even if the paperwork is 100% correct they often still refuse the visa as the final decision is down the the opinion of the visa officer.

And they do not look upon Thais very favourably in teh Dept of justice here

(just seem to like granting visas to Nigerian scam artists!)

So what are the chances of a Thai girlfriend getting an Irish visa if she's already been given a UK one?

Was her UK visa to visit you or someone else? If it was you, then i would suggest getting another UK visa as they will have all of the history etc. She didn't overstay did she?

As Mr BoJ wrote, providing that the UK visa was for the purposes of visiting you, and you are now the sponsor of the visa for Ireland, the process should be relatively straightforward.

Actually - I am the Thai girlfriend :D

Sorry for the confusion, guys - I'm just a little bit anxious as I hear the Irish visa application is much more difficult than the UK one (as posted by colmx on 2005-03-18 22:28:29). Plus, I haven't been able to find much information on what documents to provide besides the obvious evidence of my funds and contact, etc.

My boyfriend's Irish (obviously :o ) and works in London. I'll be visiting him during the holiday season, where we plan on flying over to Croom to spend this Christmas with his family. My question is: - On the application form, there's a section that asks who my "Reference in Ireland" is - who do I put down? My boyfriend or his Dad as we'll be staying at his parents' home?

In which, I am then required to write a "detailed account of how I met my reference." If the said reference is my boyfriend, then do you have any ideas on how to write a letter that will convince the "middle aged menopausal Biddy" over at the DOJ NOT to stamp a refusal on my application?

All help will be greatly appreciated!

maimaj, sorry for the confusion earlier.

Could you clarify your current position for us. The way i'm reading it is, you have already got a UK Visa (to see the boyfriend in London) and now you want to get an Irish Visa, to visit his family in Croom. Is my assumption correct?

Maimaj,

Generally speaking, once someone has successfully applied for a visa for a European country, it is easier for them to obtain one for a second country.

I take on board your concerns, but I think you're worrying too much. I would put your boyfriend as your reference, care of his parents' address, and include a letter with the application explaining your relationship. I would also refer to the fact that you have a valid UK visa.

Sorry for jumping to conclusions about your gender.

THANK YOU for all your help.

I'm just worried because I'm not being interviewed...ironically, lol.

As ColmX quoted earlier, the Irish consulate never conduct interviews.

If you are lucky a decision may be granted from Bangkok,it may be referred to the embassy in Kuala Lumpa or sent to the Ministry of Foreign affairs in Ireland.

Good luck.

Irish Work Permit For Thai Girl

Does anyone have any experience of this. I have my own business in Ireland but from what i read they have to show that they have skills that are not easily found in Ireland i.e doctor etc but my business is Restaurant/Hotel so i cant picture my thai gf getting a work permit. Is there no way around this, is there not exceptions or loopholes, its a pity u cant just bribe them here in Ireland.

But seriously if i cant get her a work permit then is there any other way of getting her an extended stay in Ireland, i couldnt possibly afford going back and forward to Thailand every 3 months when the visa runs out considering id have to pay 1,000+ euro per person for a return ticket.

Lastly if my gf was to work on the quiet for me in Ireland when she was on her visa what would the implications be for both me and her if she got caught. It could easily be arranged to keep her behind the scenes.

Hope someone can help and although id prefer information for ireland specifically if someone has info on how it works in the uk please feel free to share the info as it cant be all that different

Cheers

maimaj:

After you apply for the Irish visa the consulate hangs onto your passport, whilst the paperwork is referred to KL or Dublin.

If the Irish dept of justice refuses your visa your passport will be given back untouched. They do not mark the visa refusal down in it....

phuketpaddy:

On arrival ur GF will ne given a 1,2 or 3 month stamp in her passport.

On exit there is no immigration desk, so her passport will not be checked.

So whilst technically she has to leave after 3 months are up and to keep within the spirit of her visa, in reality she does not.

As you know Ireland is not a police state(yet!) so she could live here for years on the first visa without anyone ever looking for her ID or visa...

However if she was caught... She would be deported and no future visits would be allowed.

If as you say your business is rest/hotel you should be quite easily able to get her a working visa, add Thai to your menu and recruit a Thai "chef".

Working visa is only €500 for the year...

Colm Thanks for the info. So when you say on arrival she will get a 1,2 or 3 month visa, does she have a choice of which one or do they give out 1,2 or 3 months based on the circumstances. Also you say she will get the visa on arrival, i know she already got a visa recently for another eu country which was got in Bangkok, and by the sounds of it the visa is pretty straight forward to get. If she did visit for 3 months and returned how quick could she get another visa?

Thats great that the working visa shouldnt be a problem because i expect that if i got one for her getting subsequent yearly visas shouldnt be a problem. I was under the impression that tey were almost impossible to get.

Thanks for your help

Work visa is done by first advertising the job with FAS

If no applicant is found after 1 month you re-contact FAS and the Job is flagged,

then you can apply for a work visa for your girlfriend and it takes anywhere from 6-12 months to complete.

Can be easy or very hard.

Had all the URLs but I toasted my hard-disk last month? Will look them up again if you need them.

I advertised a job And Got 37 replies from Poland Brazil a lot of Eastern Europe

Only 2 from Ireland.

Just an update and a thank you to everyone for all the help/reassurance.

I got my Irish visa!

It took 2 weeks (handed the application in on 27-Oct-05 and got it back on 10-Nov-05).

Now, all I'm worried about is getting Christmas presents and whether his parents will like me :o
