Is A Passport Required For Domestic Air Travel?

Featured Replies

I want to fly tomorrow to Koh Chang from BKK but my passport is in the embassy for renewal, will it be needed or can I use the receipt for my passport from the embassy?

as well as driving licence or any picture identity

Thai Driving Licence should be OK - its worked for me in the past.

:o Me too. I would just make sure you take the receipt from the embassy just in case. Shouldn't have any problems though.

Unfortunately, it is my understanding they are not supposed to let you fly without the passport. I wouldn't try it.

Things are changing these days.

You may have noticed in the 'fuss' about the VOA that all the official notices quote Passport or alternative document. If you have the receipt for your passport renewal from the embassy that is an "alternative document" and so is valid. I would however take some 'Photo" ID with you ie driving licence, just in case.

Thanks for you thoughts, I don't have a driving licence though :o

And I don't have any other form of photo ID :D

Has anybody travelled domestically without their passport before?

The probably don't let you board the aircraft without any from of photo ID.

If you don't have any photo ID why not call the airline office and explain your situation and ask if they can accept your passport receipt as ID.

It's not the airline, it's the Airport security folks that checks for ID's before/after the hand luggage scanning.
