britmaveric
1 year old boy causes chaos as he drives away in his father’s car. Another bizarre story now, this time coming from Soi Paniachang 16 in Central Pattaya. Mr. Alexandre Sylvan aged 28 from France recently purchased a BMW 740 and on Tuesday Night he took a trip to a local 7-Eleven Convenience Store with his 1 year old Son. Mr. Sylvan arrived at the store and left his child inside the car with the engine running. After a matter of seconds to his horror, Mr. Sylvan saw his car move away from the store and thought it had been stolen. It crashed into an approaching car, a Red Mazda less than 50 meters up the road. Mr. Sylvan ran towards the car and saw his baby in the car alone with the doors locked. It appears that his Son had moved the automatic gear stick to Drive which is where an Automatic Car can prove dangerous as it will move even if the accelerator peddle is not pushed down. The next problem Mr. Sylvan had was rescuing his child from his own car which required assistance from the Police who arrived and rescued the child who was oblivious to the commotion. Mr. Sylvan’s insurance policy will now be put to good use and will cover the repair to the new BMW and the other damaged car. -Pattaya City News Wednesday 4th October 2006

BangnaBound
Is it even possible to move the stick from Park to drive without your foot on the break, or did he leave the car running and in neutral?
kurgen
Being French you'd have thought that he would leave it in reverse, in case of trouble Seriously though, he deserves at least a heavy fine for being such an idiot Edited October 5, 2006 by kurgen
Chang_paarp
Is it even possible to move the stick from Park to drive without your foot on the break, or did he leave the car running and in neutral? Only in US models, the models for asia do not have this interlocking device.
monty
Must be hel_l of a smart boy. I'm pretty sure any car (all of the ones I owned/driven here and anywhere else anyway, even my 24 year old Volvo) require you to push the brake pedal to unlock the gear lever when in Park, combined with a release button on the lever itself... If the bloke left the car in neutral without locking his handbrake, then he's an absolute dumbnut. Even the slightest slope will see the car rolling away! That should indeed be fined with recklesness causing danger to others.
Rimmer
He could also have left it idling in drive with the handbrake ON, the baby could easily then have knocked off the handbrake.
PATTAYAPUNTER
There are some really young thai kids driving motorbikes these days (without a helmet of course!). In this story, the only difference is the kid is farrang and a little younger. Same shit, different day...
